William King was born in Springfield in 1970 and graduated from Springfield High School in 1992. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and a Master's degree in Public Administration from Springfield University in 1996 and 1998, respectively. King began his career in public service as a legislative aide in the Springfield State Assembly, later being elected as a State Representative for Springfield's 10th District in 2004. He then served as Deputy Chief of Staff for the Springfield State Governor before being elected Governor of Springfield in 2012 and re-elected in 2016.
