Mike Klimesh holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Luther College. He spent twelve years as Mayor of Spillville, Iowa, before making two unsuccessful bids for the Iowa House of Representatives. Klimesh then transitioned to coaching at Northeast Iowa Community College, followed by a role in the public sector. He was elected to the Iowa Senate in November 2020 and assumed office in January 2021. Klimesh has held the position of Vice Chair of the Senate Local Government Committee and was elected Majority Leader of the Iowa Senate in September 2025.
