Joan Ballweg holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point and began her career as a first-grade teacher. She founded Ballweg Implement Company in 1976 and later transitioned into local politics, serving on the Markesan city council and as mayor. Ballweg has extensive experience in the public sector, including leadership roles in the state Assembly and Senate. She has also served on the board of directors for Waupun Memorial Hospital, where she became chairman.
