He graduated from Chippewa Valley Technical College with a degree in Police Science and began his career with the Altoona Police Department. Over the years, he advanced to acting police chief and eventually became the police and fire chief. James holds certifications as an Emergency Medical Responder, Fire I and Fire II Firefighter, and Public Manager. He has also completed leadership development programs at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development. Currently, he serves in the Wisconsin Legislature, where he has chaired committees focused on mental health, substance abuse prevention, and children and families.
