Jamie Ager hails from a lineage deeply rooted in Western North Carolina, with great-grandparents who were pivotal in establishing one of the region’s first farm cooperatives. His grandfather, a former U.S. Congressman and state legislator, played a significant role in the creation of Medicare and Medicaid. Ager's father also served in the State House, instilling a strong foundation in public service. Educated at Warren Wilson College, Ager holds degrees in Environmental Studies and History, and participated in an Agriculture Leadership Development Program through NC State. After completing his education, Ager returned to Fairview to establish Hickory Nut Gap, a sustainable meat company, which now employs 25 people and collaborates with local farmers.
