Johnson then transitioned to political communications, holding roles such as Director of Communications for the Marion County Democratic Party and Communications Director for a Congressman. He spent several years in education advocacy, managing communications and strategy for Complete College America. Johnson has also represented his district on the Indianapolis City-County Council, where he focused on capital investment and education initiatives. Currently, he serves in the Indiana House of Representatives and is the Ranking member of the House Local Government Committee.
