Bernt B. Haugan was born in Norway and emigrated to America with his family in 1872. He attended Red Wing Seminary in Minnesota and later published several hymnals and song compilations, including *VaegterrΓΈsten* and *Folkesange - Songs for All Occasions*. Haugan co-owned and published a Norwegian language newspaper in Minneapolis from 1904 to 1907. He ran for Governor of Minnesota as a Prohibition Party candidate in 1900 and authored temperance songs.
